What to Expect

The electrologist will insert a tiny metal probe into each hair follicle.

Through the metal probe, a small electrical current will be delivered.

This electrical current will cauterize the follicle and destroy the hair root.

The electrologist will then tweeze out the hair.

This process is done follicle by follicle.

You may feel a tingling sensation, it all depends on your pain tolerance.

There may be tenderness, redness and some swelling after treatment.

Before leaving, the electrologist will provide you with post-treatment care information.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is electrolysis different from laser hair removal? Is it permanent?

Electrolysis is the only FDA-approved permanent hair removal procedure. Each follicle is cauterized individually instead of layered in large areas.

Is electrolysis safe?

Yes, it has been proven safe. Electrologists use effective methods of sterilization, disinfection and antisepsis. Electrologists also use guidelines used in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Will electrolysis work for my hair type and skin tone?

Electrolysis works for all hair types, colors, and skin tones.

How many sessions will I need?

The number and length of sessions depends on your hairs growth cycle. Your electrologist will discuss your individualized treatment plan with you during your consultation.

How to Prepare for Your Appointment

Do not shave the area for at least 3 days, the hair must be

long enough to tweeze (approximately 1/8 in. or 2mm).

Make sure your skin is clean and it helps to

exfoliate the area before your appointment.

Hydrate! Refrain from alcohol and excessive caffeine the day of your appointment. If you’re hydrated, the hair will release more easily.
